Sisters of St. Basil the Great Host 75th Annual Pilgrimage In response to the spiritual needs of the faithful of the Ukrainian Catholic Church, the Sisters of the Order of St. Basil the Great opened their hearts and their grounds on September 31 and October 1, 2006 at the annual pilgrimage to the Mother of God. Hundreds of pilgrims responded to this invitation and partook of this tradition which began as a tribute to mothers on Mother's Day in 1931. Clouds gave way to a bright sunny sky as pilgrims journeyed from across Pennsylvania, Delaware, New York, and New Jersey. The Ukrainian Catholic Church was represented by members of the Philadelphia Archeparchy, clergy, seminarians from St. Josaphat Seminary, Washington D.C., students from St. Basil College, Stamford, CT, Sister Servants of Mary Immaculate, Missionary Sisters of the Mother of God, students from St. Josaphat school, Philadelphia, PA and youth from Past and Sum. The Pontifical Divine Liturgy of St. John Chrysostom was celebrated by His Grace Most Reverend Stefan Soroka, Metropolitan Archbishop of Philadelphia joined by Most Reverend Paul Chomnycky, OSBM, Eparch of Stamford, Most Reverend John Bura, Auxiliary Bishop of Philadelphia, Most Reverend Basil Losten, Bishop Emeritus of Stamford, Most Reverend Walter Paska, Auxiliary Bishop Emeritus of Philadelphia and a great number of clergy from the Philadelphia and Stamford Eparchies. Responses were sung by the choir from St. Vladimir Ukrainian Catholic Church, Elizabeth NJ. The Immaculate Conception Cathedral Choir sang the responses to the Moleben. The Seminarians and Sisters sang the response to the Divine Liturgy and Akathist on Saturday. Guest homilist and healer, Reverend Daniel Wach, OSBM, along with the other clergy, laid their hands upon the pilgrim's heads invoking the healing power of God. In his homilies, Revered Wach spoke of the spiritual, emotional, psychological and physical power of healing. Most importantly, he stressed the need to prepare one's inner self through prayer, the sacraments, and good works. From their arrival until the blessing of cars and busses at departure, the pilgrims entered into the day with deep spirituality and strong devotion at the many services and the various shrines.
