First Annual Golden Memories Reunion The motherhouse of the Sisters of the Order of St. Basil the Great was filled with much laughter, sharing and joy on Sunday, April 28, 2008, as the first Golden Memories Reunion was held for the St. Basil Academy students who graduated between 1934 and 1971. This joint endeavor by the Province and St. Basil Academy Alumnae Office brought fifty women and several sister graduates together honoring and celebrating their strong relationship and shared legacies. After a Divine Liturgy celebrated by Rev. George Worshak, the alumnae enjoyed chatting and touring the “old school”. The reunion was created to bring together the women who attended St. Basil Academy when it was located in the motherhouse building and the sisters who taught and guided them. They came from as far away as Florida to be able to spend time with Sisters, updating them and thanking them, and of course to share updates with each other. They are all confident that they would not be the women they are today without the formative influence and guidance of the Sisters. Many of the early graduates went on to become Sisters of the Order of Saint Basil the Great, in fact the earliest represented class was 1934, by Sister Anselm and Sister Vincent. The event ended with many tearful good-byes and enthusiasm for the reunion to be held again. Some women stayed late, just to wander the hallways one more time, visit the Grotto, or bask in the presence of their memories. Alumni and Sisters agreed that regardless of the physical changes that occurred, they are bound together in “the old school” by their shared experiences, love, and faith that were created or strengthened during their time at Saint Basil Academy. At the gathering the Mother Helena Legacy Association, which is being initiated by the Province Development Office, was introduced.
